Messiah’s “I Give’s” in John:
Living water (4:14):”But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” All of us are thirsty. We thirst for the desires of the body, water, for knowledge, for wisdom, for riches, for fame…the list is endless. As long as the thirst is not for wrong things or for our selfish motives, such thirst is alright, it is natural. When Messiah met the woman at the well, she was thirsty for a stable, steady relationship and life. Messiah offers to quench our thirst. The water which he gives us is living water, springing up into everlasting life. It is living, loving, lasting and spiritual. This water makes our life a fountain, not a pot. The water which Messiah gives will never make us thirsty again. Messiah gives us living water which is the Holy Spirit. We will always be in touch with Elohim through the Spirit, in the flow of His eternal supply. We will have eternal life because the Holy Spirit preserves us until the coming of Messiah. And that eternal life begins when we receive the Holy Spirit -- everything becomes new.
Satisfying bread (6:51):” I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” Messiah talks of his sacrificial death for the first time here. He compares his body to the bread that we eat. John. 6:58. ‘This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever’. Messiah is the real manna! There are many similarities between the manna and Jesus. both came from Heaven! Both are miraculous! Manna was white, symbolizing purity. Messiah is Holy, sinless, without spot or blemish. Manna was sweet, so is Messiah! The manna had to be "beaten" before served! So was Messiah, beaten, before shedding His soul-saving Blood! Manna was freely available to all, just like Yahshua! If anyone eats this bread with faith, he will have everlasting life. Messiah’s body provides us salvation.
Eternal Life (10:28):” And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” Messiah is speaking of sheep and the shepherd. The sheep hears the voice of the shepherd and the shepherd is willing even to give his life for the sheep. David killed a lion and a bear which attacked his sheep while he was guarding them (I Sam.17:34-36). When Messiah is our Shepherd, we will never perish because he gives eternal life. His followers like sheep hear him, are recognized by him and follow him. Those who continue to listen to Elohim’s voice will have lasting safety and will never perish. Messiah gives us spiritual life, he gives us himself, whoever has him has life,which is life eternal. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
A Worthy Example (13:15):” For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”
Before the feast of Passover, Messiah, while having supper with his disciples, rose from supper and washed his disciples’ feet. This washing of feet was a duty that was given to the lowest of the servants in a Jewish household. By washing his disciples’ feet, he was giving them a lesson in humility. As he expected them to spread the gospel and build churches (congregations, not buildings) he wanted them to regard themselves as servants and not masters. They should not regard themselves highly of themselves but be humble, always ready to serve. We should always remember his words in Mar 10:45,’ For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.’
A New Commandment (13:34)” A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” Some call this the ‘eleventh commandment’! I n Matt.2237-40, Messiah recited the two great commandments from the Old Testament and said ‘on these two hang all the law and the prophets. The old commandment told us to love our neighbor as ourselves But the new commandment says that we should love one another just as he loved us. He has loved us Answers to quiz: Gen 3:1-6; Gen 17:17; Gen 29:16-28; Num 12:9-10; Judg 4:21; Judg 16:5; Ruth 4:13;

with an everlasting love. His love is selfless, sacrificing and forgiving all things. This is the love that
shows itself in actions. That is the kind of love that Messiah tells us to have towards one another. Love is not an attribute of Elohim, love is Elohim. One who does not know love does not know Elohim.
My Peace (14:27):” Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” We get many gifts in our lifetime. We give gifts to others but many a time we cannot or do not enjoy these gifts. Sometimes the gifts do not reach the person they are meant for. People think of peace in a negative way. For them peace is absence of trouble. But Messiah’s peace which is his gift to us enables us to remain calm even in the most unfavorable circumstances. This peace is peace of mind, a positive peace that changes all situations. It is peace that passes all understanding. He calls it ‘my peace’. It is the same peace that calmed His heart when faced by people who were against him, the people who ultimately crucified him. The peace of Christ is also an unending source of strength in the midst of difficulties. It is this peace which enabled Paul to face all trials and tribulations. It is this peace that Messiah is giving as a gift to us.
Given Words (17:14): “have given them thy word”. Messiah has given us the word, the doctrine of Elohim. His word is the testimony of what and who He was. He has given us the Gospel. The word of Elohim, the scriptures, is given by the inspiration of Yahweh, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (IITim.3:16-17).In the word we find love’s revelation, faith’s foundation, the Lord’s promises. In Matt.4:4, Messiah said,’ Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.’ The word is food for our lives, it is the truth, and it endures forever.
Bestowed Glory (17:22):” And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one”. When Elohim created man, man was made in the likeness of Elohim. The glory which man had was lost when Adam sinned. But now Messiah has given us the glory. The honor which Messiah has, the same honor he has given on us when he called us his friends and sons of Elohim, the glory of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the glory of a godly character and the glory of his grace.
